A Simultaneous Hardcover Edition—Also Available as Trade Paperback Original

When Pixie Nolan first came to Bramble, Kentucky, the abandoned and desperate young single mother found hope, healing, and a fresh start. With the loving support of her best friends—Marlow Heddings and her handsome Marine husband, Cort—Pixie is now happily raising her toddler son in a cozy cottage, managing Marlow’s thriving boutique, and designing firefly logo t-shirts that are selling like hotcakes. The past is behind her, and life is good.

She never expected to make an electrifying connection with a summer renter, a retired Navy SEAL with his own complicated past . . .

A rugged warrior with scars both seen and unseen, Brogan Rafferty arrives with an adorable baby girl in tow and settles into the lake house next door. And while he’s a stunning addition to the gorgeous scenery, it’s his caring devotion that captures Pixie’s heart—the way he gently snuggles away the precious infant’s cries, or swoops Pixie’s delighted little boy high in the air with his tattooed, muscular arms.

But it’s no coincidence that Brogan has found Pixie, and his startling revelations make it clear she’s the key to healing old regrets and building new dreams. And when a hostile stranger turns up with shocking accusations against Bramble’s new hometown hero, Pixie must put her own fears and heartbreak away for good—and learn what it truly means to trust.

Returning to Bramble, Kentucky feels a bit like coming home. After first meeting Pixie Nolan in The Guest Cottage, I was thrilled to see her get her own story, and Lori Foster absolutely delivered. The Lake House is a beautifully written, slow-burn romance that settles right into your heart.

When Pixie first arrived in Bramble, she was a struggling single mother searching for a fresh start. Thanks to the kindness of Marlow and her husband Cort, she rebuilt her life and created a happy home for herself and her young son, Andy. She finally has stability, supportive friends, and a future she never thought possible.

Then retired Navy SEAL Brogan Rafferty moves into the neighboring lake house with his infant niece, Shayna. After becoming her guardian following a family tragedy, Brogan is determined to give Shayna the loving home she deserves. As fellow single parents, he and Pixie quickly form a connection built on trust, understanding, and shared responsibilities. What Pixie doesn’t know is that Brogan came to Bramble for a very specific reason—one that could change everything between them.

One of the highlights of this story is the children. Andy and Shayna bring warmth, humor, and heart to every scene, and watching their bond develop was absolutely delightful. Their relationship naturally draws Pixie and Brogan closer together, making the romance feel genuine and earned.

Brogan was exactly the kind of hero I love reading about—protective without being overbearing, strong yet vulnerable, and completely devoted to the little girl depending on him. Pixie’s journey is equally compelling as she learns to trust her own strength and embrace the happiness she’s worked so hard to build.

The small-town setting shines, with Bramble’s close-knit community rallying around its own when challenges arise. While there is some underlying tension surrounding Brogan’s secret and a few family complications, the story never relies on unnecessary drama. Instead, it focuses on healing, trust, and the courage to believe you deserve a better future.

Emotional, uplifting, and impossible to put down, The Lake House is a wonderful sequel to The Guest Cottage. If you enjoy small-town romance, found family, adorable kids, protective heroes, and love stories that unfold with warmth and authenticity, this one belongs at the top of your reading list!
