I loved Lynsey from the start. She’s intelligent, independent, and refreshingly practical. Even when life throws her a massive curveball, she never loses sight of who she is or what she wants. She fully intends to build the career she’s worked so hard for, with or without Josh beside her.
Josh is a much more complicated hero. At first, he comes across as arrogant, cold, and judgmental, but as his past is revealed, his behavior begins to make sense. A devastating tragedy during his time as a pediatric oncologist left him consumed by guilt, forcing him to abandon the career he loved and emotionally wall himself off. His instinct to compartmentalize every aspect of his life explains why he struggles to accept both his growing feelings for Lynsey and the unexpected pregnancy.
Watching Josh transform from emotionally unavailable doctor to fiercely protective father-to-be is one of the novel’s greatest strengths. Sometimes his protectiveness crosses into overbearing territory, but it always stems from genuine fear rather than control. His emotional journey feels earned, and when he finally confronts the trauma that’s been holding him back, his growth is deeply satisfying. Even better, his grovel delivers exactly the emotional payoff romance readers hope for.
The chemistry between Josh and Lynsey is electric from their very first confrontation. Their banter is sharp, the sexual tension practically crackles off the page, and the steam is classic Amy Daws—playful, passionate, and impossible to put down. Even when they’re frustrating each other, you can’t help rooting for them.
Along with the sizzling romance, there’s plenty of humor, heartfelt friendship, and genuine emotion. The surprise pregnancy trope is handled with warmth and realism, while the grumpy/sunshine dynamic keeps the story light even in its heavier moments.
If you’re a fan of enemies-to-lovers, accidental pregnancy, grumpy hero/sunshine heroine, and laugh-out-loud romantic comedies with plenty of heat, One Moment Please delivers all of it. The narrators, Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon, truly bring these characters to life and add so much to the story.
Amy Daws once again proves she’s a master at taking wildly improbable situations and making them feel completely believable—and incredibly entertaining. Loved it!
