Clandestine Affairs, Book 1
From the publisher:
Desire knows no reason…
When Lady Delilah Chambers finds herself stranded at a country inn on a rain-swept evening, she’s forced to fend off a group of ruffians with the help of a handsome gentleman. Irresistibly drawn to each other, Leela and the stranger spend one reckless night in each others’ arms—and then go their separate ways. But the very next day Leela receives the shock of her life when she meets the duke who is set on wedding her beloved stepdaughter.
When it finds two destined hearts…
One night isn’t enough with a woman as fierce, fiery, and brilliant as Leela. Elliot Townsend, Duke of Huntington, cannot believe his good fortune when their chance encounter leads to an unforgettable evening of passion. Yet Hunt’s luck runs out when he is introduced to his prospective mother-in-law. Dowagers aren’t supposed to look like this…
Leela and Hunt are determined to keep each other at arm’s length, which should be easy enough for two intelligent adults with reputations to uphold. The problem is all logic is lost when it comes to a passion that refuses to be ignored.
This was another book I read a few months ago and am just getting around to reviewing, so mea culpa. I really liked this story, it was so twisted that it kept me glued to the pages. I just had to see how it would resolve, and I’m happy to say the resolution was what I expected with an unexpected twist? If that makes sense. I mean I knew they would find their happily ever after, I just couldn’t figure out how it would happen. So kudos to Quincy, a new author to me.
I loved that the main character is a woman of some color – she is half Arab which causes the ton to look down on her. And she is a young widow, only a couple of years older than her stepdaughter, and they are very close friends. I really liked that the protagonist wasn’t another naive, innocent 17 or 18 year old. It was a refreshing change. So after her tryst with the Duke, they are both shattered to learn that her stepdaughter is the woman he is supposed to marry. They determine to keep apart from one another, but a passion like that is hard to extinguish. The whole “forbidden romance” here is very well done, so if you like that trope (and I didn’t really know that I did!) then this is your book. An excellent read with interesting characters, a believable storyline, hot romance, and a lush setting. I’m very happy I found this author.
