I love Jill Shalvis’s books; no matter the subject, she is just a terrific storyteller. This book is a perfect example. It is family fiction and romance, and the combination is just perfect here. Piper is a woman who has not had an easy life, but she has done the best she could with the hand she was dealt. Raising her siblings when she wasn’t much more than a child herself was no picnic, but now they are grown and off on their own. Or so she thinks.
Piper is a helper. She is an EMT by profession, with dreams of becoming a Physician’s Assistant, so she is not in the market for a romance. But of course, you just can’t plan those things. Told with Shalvis’s usual charm and warmth, I couldn’t help but fall for these characters and their story.
There is a lot of love and laughter here, along with some drama, and it all combines to make this book a real page-turner. I couldn’t put it down and highly recommend it.
